Chiang Mai was high on my list of cities to visit when I was booking my trip but crossed it off after. Yes, the “smoky season”—otherwise known as Chiang Mai’s “burning season”—is back again. Air pollution is a much talked about issue in Chiang Mai. At certain times of the year the air quality rises to hazardous levels and many call for action. As of this morning, March 1 Chiang Mai Provincial Hall measured air pollution at 3micrograms per cubic meter, or 1on the air quality index (AQI), which also qualifies as hazardous to all populations.
